Clare Johnson is artist/writer working in drawing, painting, post-it notes, hybrid form poetry/fiction, memoir and multidisciplinary projects, with awards from Jack Straw, Artist Trust, Hugo House, Allied Arts Foundation, 4Culture and others. Her ongoing Post-it Note Project (drawing/writing on a post-it every night for over a decade and counting, with over 5,000 so far) has featured in Real Change, Seattle Magazine, Seattle Weekly and Seattle Review of Books. Much of her work explores memory, overlooked histories, and the emotional time travel we do inside ourselves in different ways. Her public art includes banners decorating the fence around a Tiny House Village for people experiencing homelessness, and ‘what we make it’, a 13-piece installation in Cal Anderson Park based on interviews with long-term survivors about their experiences with HIV and family. Instead of monumental scale, she aspires to public art being monumentally intimate—using integration in everyday life to encourage connection.
